Relaxing

I like to fiddle around in PSE late at night, after dinner.  I am never sure what I am going to do when I sit down at the laptop, but it is always intriguing and enjoyable.  Tonight I took this photo:
Ran a sketch filter on it, did some erasing and pasted a blue sky from the internet into the background.  No reason, just fun.

The original is prettier, but this effect is quite interesting.

New Kit by Leaving a Legacy Designs; Campfire

Leaving a Legacy Designs just put the cutest kit in the store over at Stuff to Scrap.  It is all about camping.

click on image to go to the store.

I am not much of a camper, but when we lived in Iceland if we wanted to see the countryside, we had to camp, so I used some of those photos.

Lots of fun things in this kit, some really cute elements for kid scrapping!

One of the elements Kimberley designed is a border of cute wilderness signs.  Which prompted this page about our Alaska trip.
There is just no end to the uses you can find for a good digi kit!!!

Cropping Magic

A video lesson on cropping from Digital Scrapper set me on the path for this layout.  Photo was taken on our family trip to Mallorca in 1991 or so.

I started with this fairly indifferent scaanned photo, one that you would tend to toss, since it was a bit blurry in places.

Not very inspiring, right?

Well with some judicious use of the crop tool, I created something much more interesting:

Instead of stopping with one layout, I took another lesson from the same video and turned this photo:

again, a less than perfect photo, but a memory I want to keep.

Into this:

I just love playing in Photoshop Elements.

Eiffel Tower

When I was filing this template, it just screamed "Paris" to me, so I went looking for my Paris photos from our trips there.  Unfortunately most have been lost, but I managed these three.  Actually, two are the same one.

Another Journal Card Transformation

I was sorting through some of the freebies I downloaded on NSD and this journal card by bellagypsy caught my eye.

I opened the file in PSE, got rid of the white background, put it onto a 12x12 page and flipped it.  I randomly found this element by lpritchett from her beawesome kit and put it onto the page.

Using the colors in this element, I locked the transparent pixels on the journal card arrows and did some painting.  The round solid part of the card became the place for the photo.  I opened another layout I had done previously about the same trip and borrowed a couple of the elements to bring the two layouts together.  The title was done with Poplar STd font, with the background paper of the other layout clipped to it.  The photo is an old one and our clothing colors were not so good, so I ran a CoffeeshopBlog B&W action on it.

VOILA!

Journaling Cards

Journaling cards are the current darling of the designers.....I have a lot of them in kits, but do not really use them.  When I got a NSD freebie from AmyTeetsDesigns I loved the cards so much (so artsy and cheeful, that I created a collage base of them for a layout.

I started with this:
and created this:
I did add a few bits and bobs from other kits to finish it off.  Don't you love the quote I found online?

Greek Isles

Just before we came back from Europe, our family went on a cruise of the Greek Isles.  The scenery: spectacular.  The food: dismal.  I distinctly recognized the leftovers from the buffet being recycled into new dishes day after day.  We would tour the various islands, but eat on the ship.  Passing by all the lovely trattorias...........but the food on the ship was paid for.  Ah well.

Mallorca Cliffs

most of the layout is from The Tower Window Collab from Hummie's World.   The blue plaid paper peeking out was actually created from one of the photos, a very fascinating, simple technique I got from one of the free tutorials from Digital Scrapper.
